Hi, I’m Tom and you are listening to the Business Deutsch Podcast. I want to help you to improve your German. The focus is business German and is particularly suitable for advanced speakers.

Das heutige Thema lautet das Organigramm. Das Organigramm ist eine Darstellung der Unternehmensstruktur. Auf der obersten Stufe ist die Geschäftsführung.

Die Geschäftsführung: Managing directors, but often times we do say Geschäftsführer, der Geschäftsführer oder die Geschäftsführerin, the CEO, male or female. Eine der wichtigsten Abteilungen neben der Geschäftsführung ist das controlling.

Die Abteilungen: the departments. Die Kernaufgabe des controlling ist die Planung, die Steuerung und Kontrolle aller Unternehmensbereiche.

Unternehmensbereiche: Divisions. Neben dem controlling gibt es die Finanzabteilung, welche häufig auch die Buchhaltung beinhaltet.

Die Buchhaltung: The accounting department. Die Buchhaltung beschäftigt sich unter anderem mit den Steuern, der Bilanz und der GOV, man sagt auch die Gewinn- und Verlustrechnung.

Die Bilanz: The balance sheet, die GOV, the profit and loss statement or the P&L. Dann haben wir noch das Personalwesen, welches sich um die Bereitstellung von Arbeitskräften kümmert.

Das Personalwesen: The human resources. Eine der zentralen Aufgaben ist die Lohn- und Gehaltsabrechnung: the payroll. Des Weiteren haben wir die Produktion, welche die Waren und Güter herstellt, die das Unternehmen verkaufen möchte.

Des Weiteren: furthermore, Waren oder Güter: products and goods. Viele Unternehmen besitzen eine Fabrik, wo die Produkte hergestellt werden, die Fabrik: the factory. Technologieunternehmen haben oftmals keine Fabrik oder Produktionen im herkömmlichen Sinne.

Anstatt der Produktion gibt es hier die Softwareentwicklung, wo die Dienstleistung in Form von einer Software hergestellt wird, Dienstleistung, something like the service.

Alright, next time we will continue with the departments, because there are some left. Let’s now take a look into our words that we just have and try to repeat them.

Let’s go to the grammar exercise. Today’s topic is dative verbs.

We have many dative verbs in the German language and, well, you kind of have to learn them. I will tell you the dative verb, the English translation, and then I will tell you the English sentence and you try to translate that into German. It’s only five sentences.

Zeigen: to show.

Vertrauen: to trust

Helfen: to help

Beitreten: to join

Ausweichen: to avoid
