I majored in German almost forty years ago and -- because of a planned German vacation -- I needed to dust the cobwebs off my brain and relearn the language. Tom is a wonderful and patient teacher. I have enjoyed taking the conversation classes so much that I intend to continue them, which will hopefully inspire more trips to Germany! Tom makes everyone feel relaxed and the classes are great fun, as well as educational. His conversation topics are challenging and got me thinking (in German!) about a wide range of subjects, from the state of the education system to extraterrestrial life. German can be a notoriously difficult language to learn, but Tom makes German language learning fun! I looked forward to class every week because it was a supportive, interactive space to learn and practice grammar, vocabulary, and speaking. Tom is very open and creates a comfortable learning environment, so it is easy to ask questions and you don't feel discouraged making mistakes (as we all inevitably do while learning any new language). He also is versatile with different digital technologies for language learning, which is clear with his podcast, YouTube channel, and Instagram content, but this is also present in his classes because we were exposed to games, vocabulary mind maps, and different web resources. I highly recommend Tom to anyone looking to improve their German!
